Why subscribe to Poetic Therapeutics?
Hello, I am Katy and I am delighted to welcome you! You might be a poet, or a therapist, or a person who appreciates a therapy slant. Or a poetic slant. Or slants, generally. Welcome.
I am writing here to explore and express my amazement at the patterns which emerge from life if you peer in to it deeply enough. I work as a psychotherapist, and I have been supervising and training psychotherapists for several decades, so a lot of my thinking has a therapy kind of slant. I am also a poet, essayist, gardener and arguably a beekeeper (long story - probably unfinished).
Grandly, I write about mystery (‘The Mystery’, even), emergence, generativity, alchemy. I love all that, it dervish whirls me and you can expect a mighty spiritual, transpersonal spin from me. I think that everything we see gives us a way of waking up to a new way of being in the world, so all the beauty and all the darkness all counts.
But grandeur can get a bit too rich and I hope to freshen your inbox with some irreverent debunking of a few sacred cows (don’t worry, we won’t hurt the cows), and bring a smile. Even a laugh but that will be for paid subscribers only.
To be more specific about my experience, I have always been a poet and a creative. I qualified as a psychotherapist after a first career as a lawyer. It’s all the same sort of thing really - therapy, law and poetry all seek clear, accurate words for complex, muddy, difficult starting points, and I am good at encapsulating things into words. My therapy perspective is transpersonal integrative - I work with imagination and relational dynamics. I hold a Masters degree and advanced diploma in transpersonal psychotherapy as well as a diploma in psychotherapy supervision. I taught on a UKCP psychotherapy diploma and Masters course for many years, which was a brilliant, funny, intense experience, and an honour to nourish and nurture generations of students as they grappled with becoming therapists. I offer supervision, CPD courses, reading groups and obviously therapy. The alchemy of distilling the complex, muddy and difficult remains my calling and my joy.

I really like having it on my phone and I far prefer it to the doomscrolling I get in to on twitter/X, or the noisiness of insta. So if you want a look at that I have a button for that too
